In today’s often bewildering world of scientific, technological, cultural, and political change, medicine faces human problems and possibilities that transcend traditional academic disciplines.

Held at the Kingsgate Marriott, this two-day transdisciplinary symposium will bring together scholars from Communication and English studies for the first time at an event dedicated solely to the study of health and medical discourse. Our aims are to

  • assess the present state and future prospects of health and medical discourse as a distinct field
  • explore the current state of research as well as pressing areas for additional research
  • discuss potential definitions of medical rhetoric research and
  • build valuable new relationships across relevant disciplinary boundaries.

The schedule features Methods Workshops open to all UC faculty on Thursday, September 5, 2012 at 3:00.

Health and medical personel have been invited for a special session on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 2:00-3:00.
