Third Thursdays are informal gatherings where you can come together with other people in the RHM community, held on the third Thursday of every month. This semester’s dates are September 15, October 20, November 17, and December 15, 2022.
We often have a topic, but mostly, Third Thursdays are a time where you can come and ask questions about things on your mind related to scholarship, teaching, and service and to enjoy a community of other scholars and teachers.
All are welcome. Zoom links will be posted to this page before the listed dates.
December 15, 2022 from 3:30-5:00 pm ET
Facilitator: Justiss Burry
Topic: Open Forum
Description: We know this one is late in (or even after) your semester. Stop by to talk about anything related to RHM, teaching, research, and/or service, but we also encourage you to stop by and just say “Hi!” The key to this meeting is for us to come together as a community and celebrate the end of another (hopefully successful!) year.

Past Third Thursdays from this semester:
September 15, 2022 from 3:30-5:00 pm ET
Facilitator: Lisa Melonçon
Topic: Course Design in RHM
Description: Do you see course design as some magic box that you don’t know the secrets to? Have you wondered where those learning outcomes come from? How do you know when you’re trying to do too much or too little when course planning? These are some of the driving questions we’ll work to answer through a hands on discussion or purposeful course design. Handouts included. And as always, there will be time for questions and answers about our general topic or whatever is on your mind.
October 20, 2022 from 3:30-5:00 pm ET
Facilitators: Cathryn Molloy and Kim Hensley Owens
Topic: Meet and Greet for RHM Newbies
Description: New to RHM? Want to chat with others to learn more about how your work and interests might align with the field? Come hang out for an informal chat during the October RHM Third Thursdays! You’ll get space to share who you are and what you’re working on. All are welcome.
If you have questions or would like to facilitate a future Third Thursday, please contact Dan Kenzie or Mollie Stambler. This semester’s Third Thursdays are organized by the CCCC Medical Rhetoric Standing Group.
November 17, 2022 from 3:30-5:00 pm ET
Facilitator: D. Mollie Stambler
Topic: Balance, Strategic planning, and Self-Care
Description: It’s November, are we all overwhelmed yet (or still, or again)? Life-work balance and self-care are crucial to our own wellbeing, but often they can be elusive. Come join us and chat about strategies for working toward balance and making time for self-care (whatever that looks like for you). An example strategic plan/planning process will be shared, but we welcome and need your ideas and insights too so come share what’s worked for you (or not) and together we can think through strategies for improving our own life-work balance and self-care. And as always, we can talk about whatever is on people’s minds, including just informally chatting about our favorite recipes or activities for the wide variety of upcoming holidays this year (which Mollie says counts as self-care!).
