Rhetoric of Health and Medicine
The Rhetoric of Heath and Medicine, a nationally award winning journal, publishes studies of health and medicine that take a rhetorical perspective. Such studies combine rhetorical analysis with any number of other methodologies, including critical/cultural analysis, ethnography, qualitative analysis, and quantitative analysis. Rhetoric of Health & Medicine seeks to bring together humanities and social scientific research traditions in a rhetorically focused journal to allow scholars to build new interdisciplinary theories, methodologies, and insights that can impact our understanding of health, illness, healing, and wellness.
American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) Journal
The AMWA Journal is a nationally circulated, peer-reviewed publication that aims to be the authoritative, comprehensive source of information about knowledge, skills, and opportunities in the field of medical communication worldwide.
Argumentation is an international and interdisciplinary journal that gathers academic contributions from a wide range of scholarly backgrounds and approaches to reasoning, natural inference, and persuasion.
Argumentation and Advocacy includes articles concerning any dimension of argumentation studies, contemporary or historical, including but not limited to argumentation theory, public advocacy, interpersonal argument, social influence, culture and argument, public and political argument, legal argument, forensics, and pedagogy.
Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies
Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies is a journal founded in 2004 that publishes scholarship for an international readership on communication as a theory, practice, technology, and discipline of power. The journal features critical inquiry that cuts across academic boundaries to focus on social, political, and cultural practices from the standpoint of communication.
Since its inception in 2004, Communication & Medicine has been consistently interrogating the “black box” of what is routinely characterized as “the communicative turn” in healthcare practice in clinical and public health domains.
Communication Monographs, published in March, June, September & December, aims to provide a venue for excellent original scholarship that contributes to our understanding of human communication. The scholarship should endeavor to ask questions about the diverse and complex issues that interest communication scholars, including areas such as media studies, interpersonal and relational communication, organizational and group communication, health and family communication, rhetoric, language and social interaction, intercultural communication and cultural studies, and others.
Communication Quarterly is a scholarly, academic journal sponsored by the Eastern Communication Association (ECA) that publishes refereed manuscripts extending the understanding of human communication. Manuscripts considered for publication may be research reports, critical studies, state of the art reviews, reports of topical interest, supported opinion papers, and other essays related to the interest groups of ECA and its affiliate organizations. Manuscripts may be philosophical, theoretical, methodological, critical, applied, pedagogical, or empirical in nature. It has a national and international readership.
Communication Studies is committed to publishing high-quality original scholarship focused centrally on human communication processes. Articles published in Communication Studies should represent the diversity of scholarship that comprises the study of human communication, regardless of philosophical, theoretical, or methodological underpinnings. Published essays and reports of studies should make important and noteworthy contributions to the advancement of human communication scholarship.
Communication Theory is an international forum publishing high quality, original research into the theoretical development of communication from across a wide array of disciplines, such as communication studies, sociology, psychology, political science, cultural and gender studies, philosophy, linguistics, and literature.
Discourse Studies is an international peer-reviewed journal for the study of text and talk. Publishing outstanding work on the structures and strategies of written and spoken discourse, this journal gives special attention to cross-disciplinary studies of text and talk in linguistics, anthropology, ethnomethodology, cognitive and social psychology, communication studies and law.
Environmental Communication provides a major international forum for the examination and evaluation of the role of communication in representing the environment. A particular goal of the journal is to further develop new understanding of how scholarly research on communicating nature can contribute to finding solutions to some of the world’s most pressing environmental concerns. Environmental Communication addresses a global scholarly community, as well as practitioners in the field, and reflects a wide range of theoretical and methodological approaches.
As an outlet for scholarly intercourse between medical and social sciences, this noteworthy journal seeks to improve practical communication between caregivers and patients and between institutions and the public. Health Communication covers topics that include provider-patient (or family) interaction, health campaigns, health information, health promotion, interviewing, health public relations, and gerontological concerns.
Journal of Applied Communication Research
The Journal of Applied Communication Research publishes original scholarship that addresses or challenges the relation between theory and practice in understanding communication in applied contexts. JACR aims primarily to contribute to how people practice communication across multiple contexts.
Journal of Business and Technical Communication
The Journal of Business and Technical Communication (JBTC), peer-reviewed and published quarterly, keeps you informed about the latest communication practices, problems and trends in both business and academic settings or sectors. It covers written, oral and electronic communication in all areas of business, science and government.
This journal presents research that aims to improve current cancer education techniques and solve current problems that exist in educating patients and strengthening existing programs. The Journal of Cancer Education serves as the ideal source to educate physicians, dentists, nurses, students, social workers and other allied health professionals, patients, and the general public in various aspects of cancer education techniques and current problems.
Journal of Communication Inquiry
The Journal of Communication Inquiry (JCI) is a forward-thinking, interdisciplinary forum that explores communication and mass communication phenomena within cultural and historical perspectives. Publishing cutting-edge research and analysis, JCI emphasizes philosophical, evaluative, empirical, legal, historical and critical inquiry into relationships between mass communication and society across time and culture.
The Journal of Communication is the flagship journal of the International Communication Association and an essential publication for all communications specialists and policy makers. Journal of Family Communication
The Journal of Family Communication ( JFC ) publishes original empirical and theoretical papers that advance our understanding of the communication processes within or about families. JFC is also committed to publishing manuscripts that address issues related to the intersection between families, communication, and social systems, such as mass media, education, health care, and law & policy.
Journal of Health Communication
The Journal of Health Communication: International Perspectives is the leading journal covering the full breadth of a field that focuses on the communication of health information globally. Global in scope, the journal seeks to advance a synergistic relationship between research and practical information. With a focus on promoting the health literacy of the individual, caregiver, provider, community, and those in the health policy, the journal presents research, progress in areas of technology and public health, ethics, politics and policy, and the application of health communication principles.
The Journal of Health Psychology is a leading international peer-reviewed journal that aims to support and help shape research in health psychology from around the world. It provides a platform for traditional empirical analyses as well as more qualitative and/or critically oriented approaches. It also addresses the social contexts in which psychological and health processes are embedded.
Journal of Literary and Cultural Disability Studies
The Journal of Literary & Cultural Disability Studies (JLCDS) focuses on cultural and especially literary representations of disability.
Containing a wide variety of textual analyses that are informed by disability theory and, by extension, experiences of disability, the Journal of Medical Humanities is essential reading for scholars whose work concentrates on the portrayal of disability in literature. The Journal of Medical Humanities publishes original interdisciplinary studies of medicine and medical education. Research findings emerge from three areas of investigation: medical humanities, cultural studies, and pedagogy. Medical humanities covers literature on history, philosophy, and bioethics as well as social and behavioral sciences that have strong humanistic traditions.

Journal of Participatory Medicine
The Journal of Participatory Medicine is a peer-reviewed, open access journal with the mission to advance the understanding and practice of participatory medicine among health care professionals and patients.
Founded in 1982, Literature and Medicine is a peer-reviewed journal publishing scholarship that explores representational and cultural practices concerning health care and the body. Areas of interest include disease, illness, health, disability, violence, trauma, and power relations, as well as the cultures of biomedical science and technology and of the clinic as these are represented and interpreted in verbal, visual, and material texts.
Management Communication Quarterly
Management Communication Quarterly (MCQ), peer-reviewed and published quarterly, is an essential resource for scholars of organizational and managerial practice and offers valuable and timely insights for professionals, consultants, and trainers. MCQ publishes conceptually rigorous, empirically-driven, and practice-relevant research from across the organizational and management communication fields and has strong appeal across all disciplines concerned with organizational studies and the management sciences.
Patient Education and Counseling
Patient Education and Counseling is an interdisciplinary, international journal for patient education and health promotion researchers, managers, physicians, nurses, and other health care providers. The journal seeks to explore and elucidate educational, counseling and communication models in health care. Its aim is to provide a forum for fundamental as well as applied research, and to promote the study of the delivery of patient education, counseling, and health promotion services, including training models and organizational issues in improving communication between providers and patients.
Poroi: An Interdisciplinary Journal on Rhetorical Analysis and Invention
Poroi is an online open access, peer-reviewed journal for scholarship attuned to rhetoric in inquiry and culture.
Present Tense: A Journal of Rhetoric in Society is a peer-reviewed, blind-refereed online journal dedicated to exploring contemporary social, cultural, political and economic issues through a rhetorical lens. In addition to examining these subjects as found in written, oral and visual texts, they seek to provide a forum for calls to action in academia, education and national policy.
Public Understanding of Science
Public Understanding of Science is a fully peer-reviewed, quarterly international journal covering all aspects of the inter-relationships between science (including technology and medicine) and the public. Topics covered include: popular representations of science, scientific and para-scientific belief systems, science in schools, history of science, education of popular science, science and the media.
The Quarterly Journal of Speech (QJS) publishes articles and book reviews of interest to those who take a rhetorical perspective on the texts, discourses, and cultural practices by which public beliefs and identities are constituted, empowered, and enacted.
Rhetoric & Public Affairs is an interdisciplinary journal devoted to the history, theory, and criticism of public discourse. Published quarterly, the journal explores the traditional arenas of rhetorical investigation including executive leadership, diplomacy, political campaigns, judicial and legislative deliberations, and public policy debate.
Rhetoric Review (RR), a scholarly interdisciplinary journal of rhetoric, publishes in all areas of rhetoric and writing and provides a professional forum for its readers to consider and discuss current topics and issues. The journal publishes manuscripts that explore the breadth and depth of the discipline, including history, theory, writing, praxis, philosophy, professional writing, rhetorical criticism, cultural studies, multiple literacies, technology, literature, public address, graduate education, and professional issues.
Rhetoric Society Quarterly (RSQ) is published in the months of January, April, July, and October by Taylor & Francis Group for the Rhetoric Society of America. RSQ invites article-length manuscripts on all areas of rhetorical studies, including theory, history, criticism, and pedagogy.
Science Communication (SC), published bi-monthly, is an international, interdisciplinary social science journal that examines the nature of expertise, the diffusion of knowledge, and the communication of science and technology among professionals and to the public. SC addresses theoretical and pragmatic questions central to some of today’s most vigorous political and social debates. This discourse crosses national, cultural, and economic boundaries on issues such as health care policy, educational reform, international development, and environmental risk.
Social Science & Medicine provides an international and interdisciplinary forum for the dissemination of social science research on health. They publish original research articles (both empirical and theoretical), reviews, and position papers and commentaries on health issues to inform current research, policy and practice in all areas of common interest to social scientists, health practitioners, and policy makers.
Sociology of Health and Illness
The Sociology of Health & Illness is an international journal which publishes sociological articles on all aspects of health, illness, medicine, and health care. They welcome empirical and theoretical contributions in this field in the form of original research reports or review articles. Six regular issues and a special issue are published annually. These themed issues aim to identify and contribute to new areas of debate and research in the discipline
Technical Communication Quarterly
Technical Communication Quarterly (TCQ) is a refereed journal published four times per year with support from Taylor and Francis, the Association of Teachers of Technical Writing ( ATTW ), and the East Carolina University English department. TCQ publishes research focused on technical communication in academic, scientific, technical, business, governmental, and related organizational or social contexts. Articles published in TCQ combine theoretical and practical perspectives.
Text and Performance Quarterly
Text and Performance Quarterly publishes scholarship that explores and advances the study of performance as a social, communicative practice, as a technology of representation and expression, and as a hermeneutic. Articles address performance and the performative from a wide range of perspectives and methodologies, and they investigate all sites of performance from the classical stage to popular culture to the practices of everyday life.
Western Journal of Communication
Published quarterly since 1937, the Western Journal of Communication is one of two scholarly journals of the Western States Communication Association (WSCA). The journal is dedicated to the publication of original scholarship that enhances our understanding of human communication. Diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives are welcome. WJC’s longstanding commitment to multiple approaches, perspectives, and issues is reflected by its history of publishing research across rhetorical and media studies, interpersonal and intercultural communication, critical and cultural studies, language behavior, performance studies, small group and organizational communication, freedom of speech, and health and family communication.
Women’s Studies in Communication
Women’s Studies in Communication ( WSIC ) provides a feminist forum for diverse scholarship addressing the relationships between communication and gender. WSIC invites contributions in the form of research, reviews, and commentary with the potential to advance our understanding of the intersections of gender and race, ethnicity, nationality, ability, sexuality, and class, as well as the articulations between gendered performances, power, and representation in public culture. Topically and methodologically inclusive, WSIC publishes quantitative, qualitative, and critical perspectives on areas including but not limited to interpersonal and organizational communication, performance studies, rhetorical theory and criticism, and media and cultural studies.
Written Communication (WC), peer-reviewed and published quarterly, is a broad, interdisciplinary, and essential journal for research on the study of writing in all its symbolic forms. It reports on what writing is, how writing gets done, and what writing does in the world, consistently providing readers with new research findings, new theoretical concepts, and new ways of understanding how writing is practiced in schools, workplaces, and communities.
