The 6th Biennial Rhetoric of Health and Medicine Symposium

Minneapolis, MN | October 13 – 14, 2023

See the RHM Symposium Program and register today!

Welcome! On the fifth anniversary of the RHM journal’s founding, as we prepare for the first in-person symposium since 2017 and our sixth symposium since we began gathering, we have an opportunity to take stock of RHM as a dwelling place and intentionally envision its future.

We will gather on October 13-14, 2023 in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus to discuss the latest research in the field, share pedagogical innovations, be in community, and envision the future of RHM. For more details on this year’s symposium, check out the Call for Proposals.

Please note: We have rescheduled the RHM Symposium to October 13-14, 2023, one month after the Symposium was initially going to be held. We have taken this step because Rosh Hashanah falls on September 15-16 this year. We thank the RHM community member who brought this conflict to our attention and we apologize for our error.

In light of this schedule change, we have also pushed back the proposal deadline to Friday, May 12. If you have already submitted a proposal, we will be in touch to confirm if you want to retain your present submission, re-submit before the new deadline, or withdraw it from consideration.

Our signature Works-In-Progress or Working Paper Group sessions will continue this year and are reserved for those who were accepted to the symposium through a peer-review process. The Works-In-Progress session remains one of the more unique features of the RHM Symposium since it provides small groups a dedicated time to workshop their work-in-progress.

In addition to the Works-In-Progress or Working Paper Groups sessions, we are inviting proposals for additional session types this year including lightning talks, panels, and workshops! We are excited to put together a diverse slate of sessions that allow us to listen, engage, and grow as a field together.

As we get closer to the event, this site will feature our accessibility and inclusion action plan, participant profiles, the event schedule, and details about travel and lodging. In the meantime, we are very excited to read your proposals!
