Description of Work:<\/strong><\/div>\n
My research in RHM falls within mental health rhetoric research and investigates how people with mental illness challenge concepts of diagnosis, illness, and ethos, across different genres and venues. I’m also interested in the intersections between MHRR, disability studies, and labor, particularly within the field of writing studies and writing program administration. Most of my research has been qualitative and (auto)ethnographic in nature, drawing on fields outside writing studies including anthropology, sociology, and folklore. In my forthcoming book chapter, “When Things Fall Apart: A Story About Graduate Student Labor,” I use autoethnographic methods to reflect on my own experiences with mental health and labor as a GTA, while calling attention to the prevalence of mental illness among graduate students nationally. Although I’ve primarily done research in writing center studies, writing across the curriculum, and composition studies, I’m excited to learn more about RHM and would like to continue to develop a scholarly identity in the field.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
