University: <\/strong>Michigan Technological University<\/p>\n Description of Work:<\/strong><\/p>\n I am interested in how history, postcoloniality and transnationalism complicate discussions on the rhetorics of health and medicine from\/about Sub-Saharan Africa, especially in the context of health development discourse and its neoliberal dimensions. At the core of my interests are questions of intersectional power and how they are manifested in medical rhetorics as a form of governmentality. I am also interested in alternative medical rhetorics and health discourses, related to but sometimes, outside of formalised (Western) medical institutions (e.g., in women’s magazines, patients, African traditional medicine) and how they highlight questions of agency, power(lessness) and contestation in medical rhetorics.
