My work focuses on critiquing cancer discourse in public realms, neoliberal approaches to communicating health and medicine advice, and visual manifestations of cultural values regarding the body. In addition to teaching courses in science writing, medical writing, and magazine writing, I am the founder of Street Smarts, a cancer education program for women facing homelessness in my adopted city of Birmingham, Ala. I believe strongly that RHM scholars should lend our perspectives and voices to public conversations.
