Description of Work: 

My research work centers on the changes that digital media brings to scientific, medical, and technical writing. In my current project, I am interested in how visualization approaches from user-centered design can add value to the patient experience. With this project, I am focusing on healthcare messages distributed through social media and how these messages interact and engage with other patient experiences. My goal is to determine whether I can identify opportunities for intervention or support through visualizing these interactions. In addition to this new project, I’m also revising a chapter of my dissertation for publication. This chapter focuses on how academic scientists are socialized into open science practices through communities of practice.
