Description of Work:
This dissertation chapter calls for epistemic reinvention in the construction of university self-care documentation practices through the application of disability studies, ableism studies, disability justice, and technical and professional communication theory. Recognizing the potentially problematic impacts of self-care documentation practices, I analyze the discourse of universities’ self-care initiatives to demonstrate how they circulate normalizing discourse that disregards those with disabilities. Through my analysis, I indicate the need for applying guidelines that draw from a combination of ableist studies, disability justice principles, and technical and professional communication theory to help university professionals articulate more socially just forms of care that unconditionally include diverse bodies and minds across their documents and documentation practices.
