Kimberly Emmons (she/her/hers)
Oviatt Professor of English; Associate Professor & Director of Composition
Case Western Reserve University
Description of Work:
I work on the language of mental health and illness, focusing on definitional boundaries for what it means to be “well.” Recently, I have been involved with undergraduate initiatives that are trying to better understand and support students as they cope with anxiety, stress, and chronic “busy-ness.” I am also exploring the idea of “rhetorical care” in public discourse as well as in healthcare structures and settings, focusing on how language is used by and about individuals seeking treatment and/or accommodation.
