Description of Work:
Currently, I am completing a book-length researched memoir addressing how my ancestral roots have influenced my approach to survivorship. In the manuscript tentatively titled My Father’s Ground: Digging for Roots and Learning to Survive in America’s Heartland, I weave together the stories of my family, who immigrated from Ireland to an Illinois farming community in the 1870s, with narratives of survival from a number of physical and psychological traumas. The project draws on archival sources, passed-down family lore, and a plethora of multidisciplinary work in RHM.
