Description of your work
Currently, I am working steadily to clear my plate of a few lingering projects and finalize the research for 2 recent grant awards. I aim to clear my plate to prepare for a yearlong sabbatical in Switzerland (AY 2020-2021) to work on a monograph. The monograph will focus on how the sounds of healthcare technologies shape the care patients (and their families) receive in hospitals. Upon recent reflection, I have noticed that my interest in RHM tends to focus on critical care situations, whether those contexts exist in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) or anywhere else (e.g., sudden cardiac arrests and opioid OD).
For the Symposium, I am working with Candice A. Welhausen on a project where we discuss the results of a content analysis of user comments of the Pulse Point Respond app. At the same time, we argue for not leaving data on the table. Or, in other words, ensuring that we (i.e., RHM scholars) take full advantage of existing data to reduce data waste. Our Symposium work is based on our Special Interest Group on the Design of Communication (2019) research grant award. We hope to submit various pieces of this research to several journals for publication consideration over the next year or so.
