Description of your work

I am most interested in the intersections between RHM and disability studies, both in accessibility of health information and in the boundaries between promoting health and enforcing normalcy. My dissertation research analyzed scientific, public, and patient discourses about traumatic brain injury (TBI). My submission to the symposium, an analysis of scientific discourse about clinical trial failures, is an extension of that work.

I have recently moved from an English department to a pharmacy program, where I teach writing courses for pharmacy students and conduct faculty development. I am beginning to explore possibilities for incorporating this work into my research agenda in areas such as translational medicine, reflective writing’s role in experiential pharmacy education, and pharmacy students’ preparation for residencies.
